How important is staying at a hotel located in the middle of all the action?

Q. Would you be willing to spend $50 - $75 more per night?

Hotels in the French Quarter in New Orleans.
Hotels on the beach in Hawaii.
Hotels on the Strip in Las Vegas.

A. Spending the extra money could save you all cab fares, as you could walk too and from location. If you're staying at a hotel, I'd assume that you're on vacation, and you want to have a good time.
Is spending an extra 50 bucks worth not having to worry about going 10 minutes to the action? Also, don't underestimate the view. If the hotel is downtown, you will have a great night view of all the bustling action.
If I were you, I would spend the little extra and have a wonderful time.

Are there any good Hotels in New Orleans by Bourbon St. with parking and transportation to cruise port?
Q. I'm going on a cruise in July, and I need a hotel with parking (complimentary) when I'm on my cruise, and transportation to the cruise port.
I would like it to be walking distance to Bourbon St. and the French Quarters.

A. The only hotel I know of downtown with free parking is the Villa Convento, which is in the French Quarter: www.villaconvento.com

I don't know of any hotels with a shuttle to the cruise terminal, but the terminal is on the riverfront just upriver from the Convention Center so it is a short taxi ride. You can also get to it via the riverfront streetcar: www.norta.com

There is a very wide range of selections available in the FQ and downtown, from moderate guest houses to very exclusive "boutique" hotels. Search Yahoo Travel and Travelocity for ideas and also check the hotel websites. Go to www.frenchquarterhotels.com for some non-chain hotels.

The least expensive parking downtown is at the AmTrak/Greyhound station, for about $3.50/24 hours. There is 24 hour security.

Hope you have a great trip!

I need a cheap hotel in New orleans for friday February 8th.?
Q. I need a cheap hotel in New orleans for friday February 8th. I want something near the superdome and bourbon street. Under $100. Does anyone know of anyhting like this?

A. Check the travel sites (like airgorilla, expedia, etc.) and also check the hotel websites - sometimes there are better deals on the hotel sites.

The least expensive hotel I found was the Canal Street Hotel (formerly a Days Inn) at 1630 Canal Street. The hotel is offering $50/night because the city has allowed vagrants to camp under the elevated highway next to the hotel and it is unsightly. They are harmless, but it is bad for business so the hotel is offering rock-bottom rates..

Also try http://www.villaconvento.com/ and http://www.frenchquarterhotels.com/

The closest hotel to the Dome is the Holiday Inn Superdome (www.priorityclub.com) but the website shows no availability.

Good luck!

Note that the Superdome and the French Quarter are about a mile apart.
