Couple vacationing in San Diego in Feb. - Any ideas for fun and romantic activities?

Q. I know about SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo, and Hotel Del Coronado. I would like more details about aquariums, possibly if there are any diving excursions or whale/shark/dolphin watching day trips?

I am trying to avoid "tourist traps" if at all possible : )

Also would like inexpensive dining options in or around Mission Bay.
I consider low cost dining spending no more than $15 per person. We love seafood, and Mexican or Italian cooking if that helps : )

A. One of my favorite things to do in Mission Bay area is have a bonfire on the beach. You could bring marshmallows and things to make s'mores. There are fire pits on the beaches for this.

You do get to see some sealife on kayaking trips. The trip through the La Jolla caves is fun.....it's best taken in the morning before the waters get rougher. There are also night time kayaking trips on Mission Bay, but I'm not sure if they do this in February.

Coronado can tend to be touristy, but it is a fun ferry ride over from downtown. ($6 roundtrip).

For some great suggestions on inexpensive dining in Mission Bay, I'd ask that question at http://www.chowhound.com.

It can be romantic driving to the top of Mt. Soledad in La Jolla to see the fabulous view. Maybe watch the sunset from there. It's not a long drive.

Where is the best beach in San Diego?
Q. Coronado City Beach that is located in Coronado Island near the famous Hotel del Coronado?
Silver Strand State Beach?
Or the most so talked about Imperial Beach?

A. Of course it depends on what you want to do at the beach, but I think the three best beaches in San Diego are Coronado City Beach, La Jolla Shores, and Del Mar City Beach.

Here's a link to more of the best San Diego beaches, and a San Diego beaches map.

What are some good hotels in San Diego?
Q. What are some hotels that are beautiful, with good service that have or are near some great restaurants?
We are having a wedding on the beach behind the Del Coronado ans we want a hotel and restaurant that are near each other that are nice.

A. There are lots of great hotels and restaurants in San Diego. If you want to stay in Coronado, take a look at this list of Coronado hotels: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=hotels&find_loc=coronado%2C+ca&ns=1&rpp=10
