Q. I will be in Key West in the middle of June 2010. I know that is out of season. Anyone been there recently that can give me tips on the best places to eat and drink? Should I book a trip to Dry Tortugas online ($160) or will I get a better deal there? A. June is a good time to go, this is when local Floridians visit because all the prices drop & hotels become more affordable. Walk around Duval Street, you will find dozens of places to eat & drink. Drinking is a major reason people go there. Key West is a very small place, everything can be seen in less then a day. l have heard good things about that trip out to the Tortuga's & Fort Jefferson. Q. I am a very responsible 20 year old looking to have a vacation alone. Are there any hotels in Key West that would rent out a room to me? A. Yes, sure you are old enough get a room at The Inn at Key West (3420 North Roosevelt Boulevard, Key West, FL 330400) Can anyone tell me a reasonable hotel or resort in Key West florida? Q. We are celebrating 20 years of marriage in May and we would like to go to Key West Florida, preferably a resort. If not a nice hotel near the beach is fine. Please let me know. A. We got married in Key West, and our guests found that the Southernmost Hotel (1319 Duval Street) presented the best value for the dollar in Key West. If you go TOO cheap, you're likely to be disappointed with the quality or location of your lodging (you really do NOT want to stay on the newer, eastern half of the island). Q. We are planning a trip to Key West this summer and I am at a complete loss as to what is the best area of town. Our interests are being close to the beach ( of course) plus being within walking distance of Duval St. We are looking to soak up some of the local culture - but want to make sure the area we rent in is safe and close to the best local attractions. Any ideas? A. I live about a 5 minute walk from Smather's Beach right now, and it is absolutely fine to live in that area. I would walk alone anywhere in Key West at night. Key West, though very full of tourists at this time of the year, is a safe place to live. If you stay at any of the large chain hotels here you will be on the bus route to get downtown, and within reasonable walking distance of the beaches. Key West is only 4 miles long and 2 miles wide, so practically anywhere is within walking distance. Many people like to stay downtown, close to Duval.
