Couple vacationing in San Diego in Feb. - Any ideas for fun and romantic activities?

Q. I know about SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo, and Hotel Del Coronado. I would like more details about aquariums, possibly if there are any diving excursions or whale/shark/dolphin watching day trips? I am trying to avoid "tourist traps" if at all possible : ) Also would like inexpensive dining options in or around Mission Bay. I consider low cost dining spending no more than $15 per person. We love seafood, and Mexican or Italian cooking if that helps : ) A. One of my favorite things to do in Mission Bay area is have a bonfire on the beach. You could bring marshmallows and things to make s'mores. There are fire pits on the beaches for this. You do get to see some sealife on kayaking trips. The trip through the La Jolla caves is fun.....it's best taken in the morning before the waters get rougher. There are also night time kayaking trips on Mission Bay, but I'm not sure if they do this in February. Coronado can tend to be touristy, but it is a fun ferry ride over ...

What is the best beachfront hotel to stay at in San Diego?

Q. It seems like the really cheap and run down hotels are on the beach and the higher end hotels are in the city. I'm interested in staying on the beach. Someone told me La Jolla has the best beach and Mission Beach looks heavily populated and not that private. Not sure where to book the hotel. Any information about the area would be helpful. A. There are lots of great hotels located on the beach. You will also find hotels with oceanviews, but no access to a beach. My favorite beach hotel is Pacific Terrace. The rooms are nice, customer service is excellent, and it's located right on the beach in Pacific Beach. Hotel Del Coronado is on the beach in an upscale area....nice beach. What are some really good San Diego hotels?

Q. I'm trying to find some good info about San Diego. I found the Hotel Del Coronado which is the best hotel in San Diego... but how much is it? It's obviously expensive, but how much would it be for a fam of 5? Also what is a family hotel that's in San Diego that's also really good and not overly priced? HELP! Thanks! A. I have stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado and it is wonderful. It can get pretty pricey but if you are ok in staying in a smaller room than it is not to steep. I have a family of 5 and we fit fine in a room with 2 queens and a cot. And if you do stay there, make sure that you stay in the old part not the new part. The old part is classic and part of the experience . Another fun place is the hilton downtown in the gasslamp district. It is fairly priced. Also, Humphrey's Half Moon In is a bargain and it is right on a bay! Any of these places would work well for your family. Here are the average prices of each- Hilton- 250 a night Coronado- 365 a nig...

Any restaurants near Hotel Del Cornado in SD, CA?

Q. My friend is going to California and staying at the Hotel Del Cornado. The restaurants there in the hotel are too expensive and planning to go to a restaurant that is nearby. Is there any restaurants near Hotel Del Cornado that ranges (for each food) between $3- $15? A. Your friend can get a $10 lunch at a nearby Coronado cafe, or also, the following are supposedly very reasonably priced: Spiro's Gyros 1201 1st St #4 Coronado, CA 92178 (619) 435-1225 Thai Cafe 1201 1st St Kiosk 5 (between B Ave & C Ave) Coronado, CA 92118 (619) 522-0217 While looking into this answer, on Yelp, I came across one of the funniest reviews I've seen, this one regarding the restaurant in the Hotel Del Coronado, "I have a review for the restaurant, not the hotel. This restaurant is listed as one in 1000 Places To See Before You Die. But, I think you should put it at the end of your list because after eating here, you might, in fact, die. I am going to make this entry short and sweet. I o...
