Any restaurants near Hotel Del Cornado in SD, CA?
Q. My friend is going to California and staying at the Hotel Del Cornado. The restaurants there in the hotel are too expensive and planning to go to a restaurant that is nearby. Is there any restaurants near Hotel Del Cornado that ranges (for each food) between $3- $15?
A. Your friend can get a $10 lunch at a nearby Coronado cafe, or also, the following are supposedly very reasonably priced:
Spiro's Gyros
1201 1st St
#4
Coronado, CA 92178
(619) 435-1225
Thai Cafe
1201 1st St
Kiosk 5
(between B Ave & C Ave)
Coronado, CA 92118
(619) 522-0217
While looking into this answer, on Yelp, I came across one of the funniest reviews I've seen, this one regarding the restaurant in the Hotel Del Coronado, "I have a review for the restaurant, not the hotel. This restaurant is listed as one in 1000 Places To See Before You Die. But, I think you should put it at the end of your list because after eating here, you might, in fact, die. I am going to make this entry short and sweet. I ordered the seafood. I got food poisoning and was hugging the toilet seat for 8 hours of that night. The end," (Yelp Reviewer.)

What hotel would you recommend I stay at when visiting San Diego?
Q. Any ideas for a reasonably priced but decent hotel in San Diego?
A. Stay in the Downtown area, the Hard Rock Hotel, Ivy Hotel and Hotel Solamar are very trendy and new, with rooftop bars and pools with views of the bay and Coronado. You can take the ferry to Coronado and explore it, which is beautiful, rent a car one day and go to La Jolla and Del Mar.
Hotel del Coronado (in Coronado) and La Valencia are the classics, but are quite expensive.
I wouldn't recommend staying in Mission Valley, although there's lots of hotels around it. It's just that the area is just malls and chain restaurants...you're better off to a neighborhood with a bit more character, like Downtown, La Jolla or Coronado, unless BedBath and Beyond and Bennnigan's count as sightseeing.

Visiting San Diego, would like information on Balboa Park and Coronado Islands?
Q. Hi. We are going to San Diego in July. We have done Sea World and the Zoo already. We have 3 small children, would it be fun to go to the Coronado Islands with them? What is there to do?
What are the best things to do at Balboa park with the kids? Thank you so much for your help. Always great to get advice from the locals.
You guys are awesome! Thank you so much!

A. Coronado Island is OK for kids: there's a beach there where they can play. The Hotel Del Coronado is world famous, though kids may not exactly find it interesting. One great thing about Coronado is that you can get there by ferry boat - kids will love that. A lot of people like to bike at Coronado because the Island has fewer cars.See here:

Balboa park has lots of stuff: free gardens, museums (not free), and there is usually an organized event or exhibit ongoing every week end. This place is great for adults and children.
