What are the typical accommodations one can find in cheap hotels in atlantic city?
Q. By cheap hotels in atlantic city i mean places that are up to $20/ night. Thanks.
A. Alantic city is a crack head infested money trap. Keep your expectations low and your credit cards hidden and you will have a good time. The further you get from the board walk the more ghetto it gets. Motels there will be 25 to 30 a night. But try the casinos first you can find good deals a lot of the time. 30 to 50 and a world of diffrence.
What are some nice, but cheap, hotels in Atlantis that are close to all the activites?
Q. We are planning to go to Atlantis this summer, but were having trouble finding some nice and cheap hotels. We want them to be close to all the activities like dolphins, swimming, water parks, restaurants, all that kind of stuff. Please answer as soon as possible (:
A. Hi,
You are going to have fun!!! Can I come? The Comfort Suites is exactly what you want. It is just across the street and YES, you still get to use the Atlantis facilities just as if you were staying there. It is the only place I will stay. It is comfortable, nice and I believe it was just remodeled and you get free breakfast- all for about ~ 1/2 the price of the Atlantis. Don't fall for the Atlantis ads - 1 night free...it still comes out to a small fortune. Because we stayed at the CD and saved so much, we were able to go back for a 2nd trip! The Comfort Suites is actually closer to the beach than some of the rooms in the Atlantis, but...it will still take every bit of 10 minutes to walk to the beach. You have to go through the massive property to get there- it's not bad to do once or twice a day but it is not right on the beach so if you are going back and forth to the room often, it will be a workout. You can however be in the lobby of the main Atlantis Tower in literally 2 minutes from the CS if that helps.
For Dolphins, you don't want Atlantis- unless $ is no object. You want Rose Island. It is a short boat ride away- they advertise that excursion on property. You also want to do the Flying Cloud snorkel or beach trip, again, to nearby Rose Island. It's a short, fun ride on a gorgeous catamaran (maybe 45 minute ride) to a beautiful island. Most of the water excursions including the fun sunset dinner cruise depart across the street in the marina. Plan these ahead of time so you make sure to get a seat- they are a lot of fun.
I have a few great tips from someone who has been there twice....
1st., 2nd and 3rd- watch out for that sun. It will ruin your trip if you do not. Most tourist get sun burned. You can fry an egg on the road literally. Buy long sleeve surf tops (oneil)- they are not hot and will protect you. Also wear hats and sunglasses. I even wore island pants on the 2nd trip- it's that bad. Do not ignore this tip. You will get sun- even if you don't want to so don't worry about coming home without a tan- that will not happen but cover up is all I can tell you, otherwise, well, you'll see and mark my words, it will ruin your trip.
When you go in the lazy river- ALL your sunblock will wear off and you will burn if you are not covered.
Swimming- you can bring bread into the water and the fish will come up to you every time. I especially like Cover Beach and there is a little underwater rock formation on the near side of the beach and about 30 ft out. I saw some big fish there. Just watch for barracuda- don't wear shinny anything.
Water Parks- yeah, they have a great one but the best attraction is their marine environment- it is amazing- check out The Dig. We visited it about 5 times. You can also snorkel in the big fish tank $- might actually be worth it!
Sea Grapes is the best buffet in my opinion but it is pricey. There is a supermarket across and a quiznos just across the street if you want to save money. You can also rent Scooters ~$75 for 3 hours. Just be aware they do drink and drive on that island so be safe. Also, the jetskis are very dangerous- lots of fatalities every year and the vendors on the beach are very aggressive- I was very surprised to see that at such a nice property. One guy insisted I give him my life vest- bcause...he liked it. He was very aggressive about it- almost felt like he was going to just take it any minute if I kept saying no. I was laughing at first but he wasn't- he actually seemed to get angry. Also, some people are nice enough but some are NOT- some will ask for tips then not even say thank you- they will just snatch it and walk on- hmmm. That was one thing that I did not care for- some of the local bad attitudes so just be prepared...but it's not everyone...some are very nice.
Make a point to visit Compass Point one evening for diner. There is a pier that goes out over the water- best sun set in the Bahamas.
The PowerBoat Adventures trip to the outislands is fun but it can get rough- make sure the water is calm if you are planning to go otherwise you could hurt your back with all the bouncing around.
Don't walk alone at night in non touristy areas- you are still on an island and there is crime- I felt that but if you use common sense it is manageable.
There are free movies in the Atlantis nightly. Also check out their Comedy Show- Jokers Wild.
Make a checklist, itinerary BEFORE you go. The thing is, the place is so big, you will find that you did nothing all week except the beach if you just wing it. We were there for a week and still did not explore the entire Atlantis property, let along do any excursions on the first trip so plan ahead.
If you have any questions, just email me.
