Best Hotel Deals

Q. I'm taking a 4-day trip in the end of July with my brother. We won't have a car, so the city needs to be VERY walkable with good public transportation. We live in New York City. We've been to San Francisco before, so these two cities are out of the question. I'm thinking Chicago. I'm pretty sure Chicago could fill 4 days, and it seems to be very walkable. Second choice on my list is Minneapolis. I have a personal fascination with the Twin Cities so I'd like to see it. I don't know if it could fill 4 days, though. Are the twin cities walkable? How is transportation? Third on the list is Vancouver, Canada. I don't know much about the city but my brother wanted to go there for awhile. Okay, out of these three, which would be best? Open to all other suggestions too! A. You can't miss with Vancouver. But you didn't specify what you wanted in a city. You want to go for the ease and comfort. Q. If you have, what was it like? Funny, scary, a little of both? There's a slim possibility of me flying from Virginia (where I live) to California (where family lives) to see them. I've flown before, but it was with my parents and my brother so I wasn't scared. But flying by myself scares me. Does any one have any stories they can share? You get to the airport, check in, go to security, say goodbye to your family, go through security, find your gate, wait for the plane, get on the plane, get off the plane, go through the gate, and whoever is meeting you is right there. It's impossible to get lost in the airport, because there are signs and people to help you everywhere. The only bad time I've ever had flying on my own was this past winter on Air Canada from Toronto to Kelowna. First, there was a humongous blizzard, and second, all their flights were del...

Q. We are travelling from Kelowna to Nanaimo area next week. Any great places to stay that don't cost an arm and a leg? We also want to go whale watching. Is this the right time of the year? A. Ahhh Nanaimo! My home town! Great weekend to come, weather is awesome! If you go to the Island Highway off the ferry there's an assortment of cheap hotels for under $40 a night... newer ones too, with pools. That also keeps you right downtown near the waterfront! I dont know if this is the best time for Whale Watching, but the weather has been fantastic!!! There's always Newcastle Island that's just a short boat trip away.
