Q. Going to Santa Monica in late June. Which hotel do you believe is better? We're staying for 3 nights, family of four. We have a 14 and an 11 year old. (if that changes anything) :) There's the Loews Hotel at 1700 Ocean Ave. ($300/night) * comes with $100 food/drink credit! and The Fairmont Miramar at 101 Wilshire Blvd. ($339/night) ^ I've stayed at this one before, it was great. is it as good as Loews? A. This hotel isn't in Santa Monica, but it is nearby and is a very interesting place. It was formerly a small apartment building used for Hollywood starlets. It is now owned by one of actor Dudley Moore's former wives. There are four large suites and a detached apartment. They are decorated in a wonderful plushness of old Hollywood. Q. I've booked a nice room at Loews Hotel and planned to take the girls out to dinner. We only have 4pm to check out the next day at noon. I'm looking for some ideas to fill the time. A. Speaking as somebody who had a sweet sixteen and is still currently in her teenage years, DON'T BOOK A HOTEL ROOM FOR THEM! Parties at hotels are notorious for ending in disaster. Whether it be a trashed room or a mishap with boys. This is not to say that your daughter is irresponsible, so please don't misunderstand. :) But friends can't always be trusted, and some people do crazy things when given independence for a night. Since hotel rooms can be pretty pricey, it might even be better to spend that money on a big bash. You could rent a big room and a DJ. My sweet sixteen was similar to this. Q. I am leaving on Saturday with my friend. We are staying at the Royal Palm and I will be next to Loews Miami Beach Hotel, I heard it is really nice. Can I use their pool? Or is that something that only hotel guests get to use? Also, I can use other hotel's restaurants and bars right? I haven't traveled alot! A. how funny same thing happened to me i was at the crappy royal palm and tried to go use the loews pool but someone came to my lounge chair and tossed me even tough i had bough a drink so be prepared to be embarrassed. the rate difference at those two hotels is quite alot. i found the royal palm to be run down we had an ocean front view and all those rooms had nasty black mold on the roof of the rooms and the front desk said yep they are all like that! you can use any hotels bar and restaurant but not their pool area unless you are a guest, it is considered trespassing Whats a good hotel in Miami that close to the beach,restaurants and shopping areas?
