Nice and reasonable tour to Kailua beach, please tell me?

Q. We are going to visit Kailua and Lanikai beaches next month.
Please tell us how we can get there smoothly from Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki near Ala moana Shopping Center.
I thought we could use The Bus for only 2 dollars to get there, but my friend says it will be a hectic and time-consuming trip.
If it's so difficult to get there by The Bus, then do you know a reasonable nice tour to the beaches?

We are thinking of visiting Hanauma beach the next day, too.

A. I would still recommend The Bus, don't know what happen that your friend said it was hectic but time-consuming it is not. It is just over the Pali and might have taken it during rush hour or something. Next step would be the taxi but that can get a little bit more then two dollars and another tour would be a little bit more money also. If you want the freedom and opportunity then do the car rental thing and roam all over the island.

Just another local....

i want to rent a car in honolulu long term?
Q. im a college student from the mainland and im thinking about taking a summer class at UH Manoa. i would be there for 6-7 weeks and i was going to check on getting transferred (i work in retail) to ala moana for the little while im there to make some money, because we have a store there. anyways, for only 6-7 weeks im pretty sure it would be dumb to ship a car there and back SO my question is this: does anyone know of a way or a company that offers discounts on long-term car rentals? kind of like hotels that rent long term for cheaper rates? or does anyone simply have any advice about it? i know theres public transportation but going to school and working and wanting to have some fun all at the same time equals me wanting the freedom of my own vehicle to get around in. anyways, any advice would br helpful. thanks.

and by the way, the summer program at UH sets you up in a dorm or apartment so a hotel cost isnt a factor.

A. The bus system in Oahu is one of the best in the nation. Really, you won't need a car. The buses run frequently through Honolulu and Waikiki (where you'd be for the most part), and Ala Moana Center has a transfer station where you can catch several buses.

Many car rental places will allow you to rent a car for long term (usually only 30 days before you have to get a different one), but this varies from company to company. Car rental can get very expensive and parking is hard to find at most places. Also, traffic in Honolulu/Waikiki is horrible during rush hour. Look at it this way, $50/day for a car times 30 days would be $1500, plus taxes and millage if applicable. That's not cheap. Oh, and you'll need to buy gas at over $3 a gallon.

I spent 2 months in Honolulu and I took the bus everywhere. A monthly bus pass is only $40 for unlimited use. I was able to go everywhere I wanted without having to worry about traffic or parking and I got to see all kinds of stuff that I wouldn't have seen (like China town) if I had been in a car. Another plus to taking the bus is that a lot of the locals take it too and they can recommend places that most tourists don't know about.

Another option is to rent a car on the weekend or for one or two weeks while you explore the north and east sides of the island. You'll have greater freedom than using the bus, but won't have to pay as much in rental fees.

Which is the cheap and best hotel to stay near Waikiki beach in Honolulu for a family?
Q. Is there a hotel that is only walkable distance to Waikiki beach which is also closer to Walmart and Alamoana shopping center?

A. on my most recent trip to oahu i stayed at the aqua marina in waikiki. it's a condo with stove, sink, microwave, refrigerator, dishes, coffee pot...and some other stuff. we stayed there because it was the cheapest and most decent looking online and it was in walking distance of ala moana, abc store, mcdonalds, red lobster, and it was located on the major bus line. it was totally worth it for the little we paid...friendly staff...each room is decorated differently because it's owned by individuals who rent out their condos while they aren't there but it's like a normal hotel with staff cleaning and doing what they have to do to maintain everything. it was under renovation when we stayed there so im sure it's even better now. i am definitely gonna stay there again! it was totally worth it...i would give you a link to the site but my computer is stupid. i can't open another window without it freezing. so, just search for the aqua marina in waikiki, oahu. there are both positive and negative reviews on the site. i was pretty scared to stay there after reading the negative review but when i got there it was totally different. nothing like what the reviews said. you will most likely just sleep there anyway. good luck and happy travels!

aloha!
