Where can I find a nice hotel near Chicago for a reasonable price?

Q. I need a hotel room for 2 w/ queen or king sized bed. I am looking to book around end of december beginning of january but my dates are flexible. I need a hotel that is reasonably priced near Chicago but location doesn't need to be in the city. I also want a hotel with a pool, restaurant, and such to where we would not need to leave the hotel.

A. There are a number of great hotels in Chicago that match your description. These are even in the city.

Has anyone stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago?
Q. I've read mixed reviews about the hotel, but my husband and I are staying there next week and would take any tips from anyone who has been there or is familiar with the area. Tips on pricing, food, parking, anything really would be appreciated!

A. It's in a nice location on Michigan, you're a little less than two blocks south of the Magnificent Mile. China Grill is the hotel's restaurant and if you like Asian food, it's probably the best place to get it in the Loop...they even have breakfast. If you're not into Asian you're dead in the middle of a ton of American (Tavern at the Park, Park Grill, Atwood Cafe, South Water Kitchen), Italian (Trattoria 10, Italian Village, Petterino's) and Seafood (Catch 35, Nick's, McCormick and Schmicks) restaurants...if you want to save money, get a pizza at Pizano's on Madison, Miller's Pub for American/Pub style, and Beef & Brandy on State for breakfast...though you really should try to make it to Lou Mitchell's (565 W Jackson - $7 cab ride) for breakfast, or Orange on Harrison if you want something unique for breakfast like french toast kabobs, fried oatmeal, or fruit sushi.
Parking in thre area should be $40 for valet, or around $30 for self park, call the hotel and ask which garages are near the hotel...I'd guess most are theatre district, and the Millennium/Grant Park garages on Michigan ave. If you can avoid bringing a car, you should do so...cabs and public transportation are all in the area, and much cheaper than using your car, which you'll pay to park anywhere you go.

Where is a good place to have a 18th birthday party in Chicago?
Q. i live in Chicago and I'm planning a 18th birthday party for May ...i need a large nice place with a cool atmosphere, it could be a club in Chicago.

A. Most "cool" places in Chicago serve alcohol and therefore wouldn't book a party for an 18 year old. You should head to the hotels for a banquet space. The W on Lake Shore Drive is cool, as is the Justin (super expensive).
