How is the nightlife in windsor Ontario?
Q. I am thinking about going to the red bull air race next weekend but the race is not enough reason for me to drive 10 hours...Is windsor a fun city by night?
A. Jeff,
I work, go to the University, and party in Windsor, and let me tell, the nightlife is amazing. Next weekend is going to be BANANAS because of the Red Bull Air Races, and downtown will be alive 24/7 for the days preceding the event. A normal summer weekend downtown is crazy enough, especially with all the Americans coming over to drink because of the lower drinking age. On top of the ridiculous amount of bars and clubs located in the heart of Windsor, we have a world class casino which features a 5,000 seat theatre, a poker room, multiple restaurants and a huge gaming floor.
Yes, as other posters have mentioned, municipal workers are on strike so garbage is not being picked up. BUT, downtown business owners have taken it on themselves to clean up the places where they make their money. Many local establishments will generate more income over the Red Bull weekend then they will for the rest of the year. I commute downtown for work everyday, and I stroll in the downtown core during lunch, breaks, etc. without ever passing piles of garbage, overflowing trash cans, etc. Red Bull has even hired their own contractors to clean up the riverfront area, where the races will be taking place. Additionally, Windsor's biggest cab company is on strike as well, but if you have your own car then it shouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't want you drinking and driving, but if your hotel is downtown you can just walk from the bars back to your room.
Because of the recent economic downturn, you will find great deals on drinks, meals, rooms, etc. Anyways, to get back to to your original questions, Windsor is super fun by night, and I promise you'll have a great time. Check out the links below for more info. If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a message.
