What are some good/cheap hotels in austin, tx?

Q. I am going to Austin City Limits this year and i need to find a good hotel that i can get for around $100 a night. It would be great if it was downtown austin as well.

A. This is where I stay:

Wellesley Inn Suites Town Lake
1001 South I-35
Austin, TX 78741
Toll-free: (800) 469-6130

Not fancy, but cheap and very close to downtown.

How can I stay in a city but no where to live?
Q. I'm visiting Austin, TX to visit friends at college but i have no where to stay and I'm not about t stay at a hotel because it costs $425 per night. I'm only staying for 4 days. Any suggestions?

A. There are hotels/motels in Austin for a lot less than $495 per night. If your friends can't offer you a place to stay for a few days, look into cheaper places to stay: http://www.hotels.com/ . It's a very bad idea to be on the streets during the nights.

What's is a good, cheap hotel near East 6th in Austin, TX?
Q. I am looking to stay in Austin for four nights for under $400 total (sept 1-5th). Any suggestions? We would like to be walking distance to East 6th. I have looked at La Quinta, Hilton Garden Inn and Omni but haven't seen any under $400 total. Let me know if you see any discounts or know of cheaper places in the area. Thanks!

A. Frankly, there are no GOOD cheap hotels within walking distance of 6th street. You might be better off to stay just a little further away and spend the difference on cab fare or even rent a car. Here are a couple to check though:

Doubletree at W 15th Street
Hampton Inn on San Jacinto
Marriott South (about 5 miles from downtown)

Those are probably some of the less pricey ones.
