Can you tell whether or not someone checks in for a hotel reservation?

Q. If a friend is making a hotel reservation for me and my husband's honeymoon, and we decide to check into a different nicer hotel will she be able to tell? She is giving us her card, so she wouldn't be with us at check-in obviously.
We will not be using her card for the other hotel.

A. Hi Emily,

She will know if you did not use her card....No charges of a hotel will ever show up on her statement. Since you are not going to use her card, and use your own, thank her for the gesture, but tell her that you decided on a different hotel. Maybe because it was near other things you would like to see or do, whatever.
