Where is a good place to stay for Americans visiting Dublin Ireland?

Q. Looking for a safe, nice place for a couple of people who have never been to Ireland before. Any information you could provide about areas to go to or areas to avoid would be appreciated!

A. There are many hotels on the N11 - the main road to the south-east of Dublin, and the south-east of Ireland. This is a very safe part of the city, and as such it would be more expensive. I advise against staying in the city-centre. Hotels on this route are the Radison SAS St Helens, Stillorgan Park, and the Hampton. These are very nice hotels, and shouldn't be as expensive as, say, the Westbury or the Shelbourne.

The great thing about these hotels is that you can get the Aircoach there directly from the Airport. A return ticket is about â¬14 and there's plenty of space for luggage. It will avoid having to use other public transport, or even a taxi. (BTW, taxis at the airport are notorious for over-charging Americans. I would avoid taking them to/from the airport at all costs. In the city, though, there shouldn't be any problems.)

Im doing a project for school and need to know several questions about Dublin, Ireland.?

A. 1. Dublin is the largest city and also the caiptal of the Republic of Ireland. It is also known for being a host for music and sports venues as well.
2. The population is approximately 1,186,159 as of the 2006 census (http://www.cso.ie/census/documents/2006PreliminaryReport.pdf)
3. Dublin does have it's unique culture. People from Dublin are "Dubs" and those from other part sof Ireland are "culchies." Also, Dublin is split in two parts and each have their own characteristics-- north Dubs and southside Dubs.
4. The best place to eat would be O'Shea's in north Dublin or O'Neills in south Dublin.
5. The best place to stay is the Westbury Hotel off Grafton Street.
6. The people are friendly and the population is diverse. The Dubliners are some of the nicest people.
7. Dublin is located on teh east coast of Ireland-- in the middle if the country (lengthwise)

I am taking my bf to Dublin for the day, where would you recommend going?
Q. We are going this Thurs, going to get there at about 0900hrs, and then get the last flight home at 2200hrs, so we're not staying over!

We're both in our 20's so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

A. Get the Airlink bus to O'Connell Street; hop out on O'Connell Street and see the famous GPO and the Spire and see the statue of James Joyce on North Earl Street (opposite the Spire); there's also an art display on O'Connell St at the moment called Light People by Julian Opie; Go across O'Connell St Bridge (unique in that it's wider than it is long!), from here you can see the Ha'Penny Bridge; head down Westmoreland Street and past the Molly Malone Statue; go up Grafton Street for some shopping; at the top of Grafton Street you can cross the road into St Stephen's Green, a scenic spot in a bustling city; head back down Grafton Street, taking a left at the Westbury Hotel where you'll come face to face with a bronze statue of Phil Lynnott! Here you can cut through the Westbury Shopping Mall and head into the George's Street Arcade area - here you'll find some unique shops and eateries including my personal favourite the Market Bar www.marketbar.ie :); head down George's Street and into the (in)famous Temple Bar area which is very popular with tourists and has loads of "traditional" Irish pubs to choose from. It's expensive so be warned! The famous Irish Film Institute is located in Temple Bar and has a great little restaurant and bar; Walk through the Temple Bar arch, back onto the Ha'Penny Bridge, cross the Liffey and head up Liffey Street and onto Mary/Henry Street which is about to go under major renovations. Take in a last few sights before hopping on the Air Coach back to the airport!

Places to eat in Dublin that I would recommend are:
www.themarketbar.ie (George's St area)
www.ifi.ie (Temple Bar area)
www.talbot101.ie (located off O'Connell St)

Places to drink...
www.thefoggydew.ie (Temple Bar area)
Bruxelles Pub (Phil Lynnott statue outside it, just off Grafton St)
www.dakotabar.ie (behind Westbury Mall/George's St area)
