Q. Im going to book a hotel for me and a friend. Shes only 17 and im 18. When i search hotels should i take 2 adults or 1 adult and 1 child? some of the sites does not give information about age. And when it says child 0-17. are you adult when you are 17? this is confusing

A. To book the hotel you must be 18 i.e. an adult. You should book for two adults. For the purposes of booking child rates, it usually means someone under the age of 14.

Are there any hotels near the Magnificent Mile in Chicago that would have decent prices?
Q. For the first weekend in May? We are planning a road trip there, but the hotels downtown are either sold out or pricey! Since we are driving anyway, we figured we could stay somewhere around Chicago. It's really going to be more of a relaxing trip. We are only planning to visit the Navy Pier, the Skydeck, a couple of good restaurants and whatever else catches our fancy. So what would be some good areas to search for hotels in?

Thanks!

A. There are a lot of mid-priced hotels near O'Hare airport that might work much better for you. Here's why:

Parking at these hotels is free. Downtown hotels charge an extra $20-35 per day for parking with no in-and-out privileges - and you're not going to find any street parking downtown anyhow.

If you can find one of the hotels along River Road or Cumberland Ave, most either are a walking distance from the "Rosement" or "Cumberland" Blue Line "L" stations - OR they offer a shuttle to them. It is a convenient 30-40 minute ride to the middle of downtown: no messing with parking (which costs a LOT, and can kill 20 minutes).

When you get to the Clark & Lake Blue Line subway station downtown, Michigan Avenue is a five to ten minute walk east.

The area near O'Hare is completely safe, and there are many hotels and other transportation options nearby.

Check out the Marriott, Hyatt (if you want to splurge), Doubletree, Sheraton, Holiday Inn, Hilton, Candlewood, Radisson web pages for information.

BTW, there is a Marriott Hotel at the intersection of Higgins Road and Cumberland, right around the corner of the Cumberland station. They are in a residential/commercial suburban location: they are not too costly ($80/night deals are available).

Also, call the hotels themselves (not the corporate site) because some of them offer unpublished discounts if you nag them.
