where is there a good camp ground near the smithsonian in dc?

Q. some friends and i are planning a camping trip for a few days but want to be close to the Smithsonian to because we'll be staying in DC for a couple days too. Any suggestions on campgrounds and maybe even nifty hotels in DC. Thanks in advance!

It's only a few miles from a Metro station (subway) that can take you into DC.

Are there any good hotels in train distance to the Capital mall in DC?
Q. I'm looking to go the Capital Mall coming up, but all the hotels in DC are way too expensive per night. Are there any recommended hotels that are adjacent to the Metro (is that the right name?) they have there that could take me to the capital mall area and back?

A. Roselawn is in virginia but it's right on the line and have some nice and pretty cheap hotels. Only a couple stops after getting on at the airport. Very short train ride to the mall.
